A Study of Christadelphian Hymnody: singing with the spirit and with the understanding
By Rachel Hocking 2000
The full thesis can be viewed at:

It's a basic history of Christadelphian hymnody - I wrote it about 10 years ago and didn't have a lot of the resources I have now, but am thinking of revising it, so if you have any more info or comments, please contact me rhocking@mca.org.au

Useful reference for Christadelphian 2002 Hymn Book

Here's another useful concordance for the hymn book, but unlike others, this one is a SEARCH ENGINE - type in a phrase that you're after and it will find it in the hymn book. Also on this site are several albums recorded by James Pearson.

Useful Weblink for the Christadelphian Hymn Book

At this site, all hymns out of the Christadelphian Hymn Book (2002) have been recorded on piano by Peter Clausen for use in the meeting. While its not the perfect solution, it is an alternative if you don't have an ecclesial musician, or if your musician is away.

Function of music within a typical Christadelphian memorial meeting

By Rachel Hocking
This is just a quick chart I put together a long time ago and have updated a bit - its to help with planning for music in the typical memorial meeting. Your meeting may be structured a little differently but its worth spending time working out what role the music currently plays, and what role you'd like it to play.

Music for Worship in the Ecclesia

I gave this session at W@W National Conference 2008 and Sydney Conference 2008. What's given here are the notes, so should mostly (hopefully) make sense! There are also Powerpoint slides that you can download. Please feel free to contact me if you have any comments - r.hocking@unsw.edu.au

With My Song I Will Praise Him by Sam Dando

This variety session was given by Sam Dando at Sydney Conference 2008. The session aimed to assist songwriters with lyric writing. You will need Powerpoint to open the file. Examples of lyrics writing are given from the hymn book, and there's some easy ideas to remember - well worth a read.

Sydney Conference 08 Songwriting Seminar

The attached PowerPoint presentation was used to facilitate discussion & ideas for a Songwriting Seminar at the Sydney Conference 08. It was first presented at Adelaide Conference in 2005 and has grown over the years based on my own songwriting experiences and books I've read.

Obviously this presentation was designed to be a summary of the thoughts and used as an aid to discussion so its not comprehensive or explanatory. Some people requested that I place it up on the website as a resource. If there are questions that arise please don't hesitate to contact me.

It amazes me how many accomplished and talented musicians see songwriting as this elite and mysterious craft that only a few can really aspire to. I see the fear in people's eyes when they talk to me or ask me about songwriting. They either tell me they either write lyrics or tunes but never both or say that they've tried once or twice, failed dismally and have given up trying.
